After spending some time working in restaurants and traveling, she finally was given the opportunity to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island. Kylie is interested in all aspects of veterinary medicine, but has a special interest in soft tissue surgery and preventative medicine. When not at the clinic, you can probably find her out with her potcake Scout, gardening or doing home renovation projects.
Dr. Julie Weste
My passion has been my small animal patients and my horses. These creatures cannot speak for themselves. They do not mislead and they do not lie. Animals have taught me a lot about honesty and politeness. Animals helped me develop insight and wisdom. They keep me grounded. Animals appreciate the golden rule ‘Do unto others as you would them do unto you’. Veterinary science and the art of practicing medicine is a special combination. I do what I love and I am what I do.
Dr. Kirsten Goodman
A native of New Glasgow, Dr. Goodman graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1981, fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. Over the years she has had the opportunity to ply her trade in many different practice settings, including a James Herriot- style country practice, several small animal/pet hospitals and a feline exclusive practice. She also owned her own practice in Dartmouth prior to her husband’s work requiring that they move to Ontario where they remained for twenty-four years and raised their family.
In 2014 Dr. Goodman returned home and joined the Weste Animal Hospital family. She has a special interest in feline medicine, endocrinology and reproduction, and derives great pleasure from observing the human-animal bond.
In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, choral singing, sea kayaking and spending time at their cottage in Pictou County. A breeder of Border Terriers, Dr. Goodman shares her home with four of them – Ruby, Tilley, Finnigan and Shirley.
Dr. Ashleigh McKeen
Dr. Ashleigh McKeen is a small animal veterinarian who has been caring for pets since 2020. Her passion for helping animals began at a young age, and she has been dedicated to their health and well-being ever since.
Ashleigh earned her Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in 2015 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2020. She started her career at a small animal practice in Shediac, New Brunswick, before returning home to Dartmouth in 2023 to join the team at Weste Animal Hospital.
Her professional interests include preventative care, fear-free practice, and senior pet wellness.
At home, Ashleigh shares her life with a sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Pippa and two cats, Rose and Kit. Outside of work, she enjoys running, skiing, playing soccer, gardening, and reading.
She looks forward to meeting you and your furry family members at Weste Animal Hospital!
Dr. Jessica Brocos
Dr. Jessica Brocos comes to Weste from Holly Animal Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, where she spent over four years caring for pets and their families. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in 2011 and moved to Nova Scotia in September 2025 to make her dream of East Coast living a reality.
A true advocate for the human-animal bond, Dr. Brocos is passionate about keeping pets healthy and happy while supporting responsible, loving care. She believes that veterinary care works best as a team effort—with veterinarians, pets, and their families all playing a part.
When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll find Dr. Brocos exploring her new community, soaking up the beach vibes, and enjoying time with her family—including two adorable pups who keep life full of love and laughter.
